3 Adar-II 5771 RCV Hosts Dayan Baruch Rubanowitz The Rabbinical Council of Victoria (RCV) this week welcomed to Australia Rabbi Baruch Rubanowitz of The Institute for Dayanim in Israel.
Rabbi Rubanowitz is in Melbourne to run a week-long conference for members of the Victorian Rabbinate on the compatibility of halacha (Jewish law) with secular law in matters of civil and commercial disputes. The conference forms part of the RCV's groundbreaking work towards establishing a Beth Din for Civil and Commercial Disputes in Melbourne. Having studied under some of the greatest Torah sages of the last generation, Rabbi Rubanowitz is an internationally renowned expert in all areas of halacha.
Commenting on his visit, Rabbi Meir Shlomo Kluwgant, Immediate Past President of the RCV and the conference organizer, said that “the Melbourne Jewish Community is very fortunate to have a person of the caliber of Rabbi Rubanowitz share with us his knowledge and expertise. The RCV is excited about the prospect of establish a Beth Din for Civil and Commercial Disputes, which would provide a forum in which members of the community could resolve any such disputes ‘in-house’, without the need to resort to litigation and be burdened by the associated costs and publicity. In working to ensure that such a Beth Din would comply not only with halacha, but also with relevant state and federal laws, Rabbi Rubanowitz is spending much of his time consulting both with senior members of the Rabbinate as well as prominent barristers and Supreme Court judges”, he said. Members of the community will have the opportunity to hear an address by Rabbi Rubanowitz at 8:00pm on Sunday, 13 March at Chabad of Glen Eira on the topic of ‘Resolving Disputes the Jewish Way’.
