Rebbetzins attend Marriage Preparation Course Training

Last week over 30 Rebbetzins of the Rabbinical Council of Victoria (RCV) and Kalla (bride) teachers attended an exclusive marriage preparation professional development session with Dr Yocheved Debow, author of Talking About Intimacy and Sexuality: A Guide for Orthodox Jewish Parents, as well as a world renowned sexuality education program for schools.

It is customary for brides that are married by an orthodox rabbi to attend marriage preparation lessons focussed on the Laws of Family Purity. The training presented by Dr Debow focused on the sensitivities involved with teaching brides from diverse religious backgrounds, about the Laws of Family Purity prior to their wedding.

Dr Debow, who holds a doctorate from Bar Ilan University, during which her research focused on sexuality and intimacy education said “……what a wonderful opportunity it was to sit with women who care so deeply about the important work that they do preparing brides and grooms for marriage from the perspective of the Jewish tradition. It was a pleasure to learn with them and think with them about the best ways to prepare couples for this beautiful and significant aspect of their lives.”

"I commended the teachers in the room on their outstanding commitment to the women they guide in their often continued role of supporting the bride in navigating areas of Jewish family law even after she begins married life."
